My day started today at 4:45am. Normally it starts at 5:15am but this morning I walked with my dear friend. We started the tradition a few years ago-to walk to the local coffee shop (okay, it’s a Starbucks) and continue to walk and talk, sharing life over coffee AND exercising-perfection! Today, though, it was too cold to keep walking-so we stayed and shared life in the warmth of a heated building.

I returned to the house, blessed my husband by starting his truck and began gathering his things (warming water for his tea, loading up his lunch bag with the necessary supplies). After seeing him off I warmed up my Chai from my early morning Starbucks walk, built a fire (that would be the switch on the wall), lit the evergreen candles (yep-it’s a fake tree), grabbed my Bible, journal and the book I’m reading through again (Sally Clarkson’s Seasons of a Mother’s Heart).

As I was reminded about how important it is to love our kids in the midst of our days-my oldest comes down, Bible in hand wearily stating, “I’m here mom, I’m ready”. She has decided to join me in my quiet times in the mornings. Something that fills my heart beyond words.

Snow outside, blanketing the evergreens, a quiet peaceful house, void of conflict, disobedience and up and down emotions (there are four girls in our house-please remember) a constant, warm fire, cozy blankets, my Christmas stocking mug filled with Chai, a 10-year old highlighting her latest find in her Bible.Whoa. This day will NOT stay this amazing for long-and my challenge-to remember this moment and draw upon it’s sustenance as we continue with our day.

May we draw on the Lord for our strength-and enjoy the blessings of our life along the way.

Ecclesiastes 3: 11-13

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.
