El Guapo and I love to backpack-but after we took Sarah for her first time when she was 6 months old we kinda got out of the habit. (by “backpack” I mean load up everything we need for a few nights into backpacks and camp up, up, and away from it all).
Two years ago we celebrated our 15th anniversary by heading up into the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. We loved it so much we just had to go again this year to celebrate our 17th (hence the title of this post “Backpack 17” : )
We hiked in/up 8.5 miles (about 4.5 hours of hiking-lunch break included). There was zero people there-again-which was perfect for us. I mean, if you’re going to work that hard at getting somewhere it would be nice not to be greeted by other outdoor adventurers and their radios!
And the best part of the entire trip? NO blisters! For those of you who have been with me for a while you’ll remember how terrible my blisters have been in the past after trips like these and hikes up 14ers. Well…El Guapo got me new boots for our anniversary and they are amazing!! I went from a size 9 1/2 to a size 11-um, maybe my shoes have been too small for the past 15 years?! Sheesh.
El Guapo and I have vacationed on beaches, enjoyed B&Bs, traveled through developing countries, grabbed a last minute hotel deal in town-and this little 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip tops any of those-especially when you have a short amount of time to get away. Okay, I would love to travel again-but that takes more time. and money. and planning. and babysitting.
Completely disconnected from life and connected to each other & surrounded by God’s creation? Perfecto.
Here’s some photos to prove it:
Enjoy the rest of your week!
